Hundreds of firefighters, emergency responders, friends and family attended a memorial service in Clinton County Wednesday to pay tribute to Donald Mellott.
The 62-year-old fire policeman from Flemington was at the scene of a crash late last week when another car came along, hit and killed Mellott.
It was standing room only at the memorial service near Lock Haven.
So many people spoke of how Mellott touched their lives and how he will never be forgotten.
Fire trucks and emergency vehicles lined the road leading to the memorial service. Hundreds of Mellott's colleagues came, looking to somehow help the community heal after the fire policeman's sudden death.
Mellott was killed late last week while serving with the Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company at the scene of a crash.
Mellott responded to the crash Friday near Mill Hall and was directing traffic away from the scene when investigators said a man drove through the traffic cones, striking Mellott.
He died at the hospital. |
